Local surgeon dies after being hit by vehicle.
A Louisville orthopedic surgeon died Tuesday after he was struck by a car driven by an acquaintance as they left a bridge game at a home on Park Hills Drive, according to the Jefferson County coroner’s office.
James Harkess, 81, of Lightheart Road, died of multiple injuries at University Hospital at 8:06 p.m. Tuesday, according to Deputy Coroner Jim Wesley. Wesley said Harkess was walking down the driveway to his car after a bridge game at a friend’s house at about 5 p.m. when another guest who was backing out of the driveway struck him, Wesley said.

Just found out that Dr. Harkess has passed away and wanted to reply that he was a great physician. If it were not for him I may not be walking today. Kosair and Dr. Harkess were the greatest to myself and family in the 70's.
Thanks Dr. Harkess you will be missed.
